I am running for re-election to the Mountain View Los Altos (MVLA) High School District Board of Education.  My wife and I are 23 year Mountain View residents with a recent MVLA graduate and two current students.

During my seven years as an MVLA Trustee, I have spent time on all MVLA campuses, analyzed academic data, and carefully studied District budgets.  I have visited classrooms, and met with parents, students, teachers, and staff. 

I am excited about our District's positive momentum, and proud of the achievement of our students.  Recent accomplishments and trends include:

• Rising levels of academic achievement (API increases 10 consecutive years).

• Narrowing Achievement Gap (8 consecutive years)

• Sound fiscal position (careful and conservative planning during economic downturn).   

• Increasing college-readiness (96% attend college; 75% are UC-eligible).

• Introduction of many new classes and programs, which serve a wide range of students, with varying academic interests and abilities.

• Increased outreach and support for Latino students and families.

• Los Altos and Mountain View High Schools are ranked in the top 1% nationally (Newsweek Magazine)

The District cannot rest on its laurels and must strive for the next higher level of excellence.  As a Board, that's our obligation to our students and to our community.  

MVLA is a wonderful district that truly provides something for everyone.  I am grateful for our supportive community and the partnerships we have established with local cities, businesses, and non-profits.

I would like to continue in my role as Trustee and District leader, and I believe that my background, my Board experience, and being a current MVLA parent will enable me to continue making meaningful contributions.

• Improving academic achievement for ALL students.
• Ensuring that financial plans are responsible, sustainable, and aligned with district goals.
• Expanding Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) course offerings and integrating technology in student learning.
• Providing classes and programs that meet the evolving needs of our student body and the desires of our community, with an openness to innovative new approaches.
• Increasing support programs and outreach to under-represented students and families.

I strive to provide all students with a safe, supportive, and challenging instructional environment, the appropriate level of educational resources, and modern technology and facilities.
